What is a Good Faith Exam?
If you’ve scheduled an appointment at PURE Medical Aesthetics in Stamford or Norwalk, Connecticut, you’ve likely encountered references to a “Good Faith Exam” (GFE). Here’s what you need to know about this requirement.
Understanding the GFE
The Good Faith Exam represents an annual medical evaluation mandated by Connecticut state legislation. Its primary objective is determining whether patients are appropriate candidates for aesthetic treatments. During the assessment, practitioners document essential medical details including allergies, current medications, existing health conditions, and prior procedures.
Completion Options
Two methods are available for conducting a GFE:
- Telehealth video consultation (typically 5-10 minutes, completed before your visit)
- In-office completion during your appointment
Provider Requirements
Connecticut law stipulates that only advanced practice providers (APPs)—meaning licensed MDs, APRNs, or PAs—can perform a Good Faith Exam, as they possess prescribing authority. While registered nurses demonstrate considerable expertise, state regulations prohibit them from conducting these assessments independently.
Process and Duration
After booking your appointment, you’ll receive a scheduling link. Select a convenient time, and you’ll receive a brief call to complete the exam. The recorded information becomes part of your patient file for the entire year.
